Remembering Donald MacGregor

With our website launched we’d been scouring our archives for appropriate images. One of the images we found (published below and used on our About Us page) is of the Pittenweem New Town Hall Committee as of 2016 which features Donald MacGregor.

This pictured was captured during a celebration of Donald MacGregor’s retirement from the committee and allowed him the pleasure of switching on our new central heating system which he helped get funding for us from Fife Council. We had a small afternoon tea laid on for this special occasion.

From left to right back row – George Thomson, Norma Anderson, Liz Muir and Jim Taylor, front row left to right Christine MacCallum, Donald MacGregor, Jannette Boyd and Margaret Wardlaw. Donald worked hard alongside the committee and helped bring the hall up to the 21st Century.

Sadly, he did not get long after he retired, he passed away early last year.

Many in the Pittenweem community will remember Donald MacGregor who had a varied past, including being the local councillor for North East Fife, former German teacher at Madras High School in St Andrews, and a former olympian finishing in the top ten for Scotland at the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh and in 1974 at Christchurch, New Zealand.

We have fond memories of Donald and will always appreciate his work and lifelong commitment to the East Neuk of Fife.
